3D Crystal Laser Engraving Machines
Desktop UV and green laser options for personalized crystal gifts and awards
Is Subsurface Crystal Engraving Right for Your Business?
3D crystal laser engraving machines focus a green or UV laser inside transparent optical crystal to create 2D portraits, text and 3D point-cloud images below the surface. The process leaves the outer crystal surface intact and is used for personalized gifts, awards, memorials and retail production.
HT Marker supplies desktop 355nm UV and 532nm green laser configurations for subsurface engraving.

- Photo and gift studios: create portraits, text and personalized keepsakes inside optical crystal.
- Award makers: engrave logos, text and 3D designs inside awards and presentation pieces.
- Retail operators: run desktop personalization workflows for gifts, memorials and event products.
Choose from the blank dimensions, usable engraving volume, design detail, file preparation and representative job time.

Compare Desktop Crystal Engraving Models
Start with the dimensions of your design, not just the size of the crystal blank. Maximum blank size is not the usable engraving volume. Compare the model-specific limits below, then confirm the supplied software and material compatibility.

From Your Design to a Finished Crystal
- Prepare: choose a clear photo, logo or 3D model and confirm the conversion workflow.
- Size: fit the design inside the usable engraving volume, allowing for the blank shape.
- Set up: position the blank and use the settings approved for its material.
- Check: inspect a representative result before repeating the job.

How does a laser engrave inside crystal without breaking it?
A sub-surface laser focuses below the surface and places tiny points inside a suitable optical crystal blank. Together the points form the portrait, logo or text. The outside stays polished. To avoid chips and cracks, keep the design inside the blank's usable engraving volume, away from the faces and edges, and inspect a first finished piece before you take orders.
A flat photo is not a 3D model. A portrait may need 2D-to-3D point-cloud preparation and a manual check before it engraves well.
532 nm green or 355 nm UV?
| Model | Laser | Typical work | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| HS-GL05 | 532 nm green | Photo crystals, names and souvenirs for studios and gift shops | Time one real portrait before you promise a walk-in turnaround |
| HS-GL20P | 355 nm UV | Detailed awards and glass trophies | Blank compatibility; the wavelength alone does not prevent cracks in thin or unknown glass |
Crystal Laser Engraving FAQs
How do I prepare the files? Do I need professional 3D design skills?
You do not need to design every job in 3D. For a simple logo or text, start with a clean high-contrast 2D file. For a portrait, start with a sharp, well-lit photo; converting it into a convincing 3D point cloud is a separate preparation step. For an existing 3D design, both listed models reference GLB files. The production workflow is: prepare the image/model, size it to the crystal blank’s usable volume, preview the dot layout, position the blank, then run and inspect a first piece. Share one representative file and blank size so the supplied conversion tools and machine software can be checked before purchase.
How long does it take to engrave a single crystal block?
No verified single-block time is published because engraving time follows the number of internal dots, not only the outside block size. The HS-GL20P lists a 2 kHz pulse-frequency reference; the HS-GL05 lists 1–10 kHz. A detailed 3D portrait contains far more points than text or a simple 2D logo.
For capacity planning, provide the design type, usable engraving volume and required detail. HT Marker should time a comparable file on the selected model rather than applying one generic minutes-per-block claim.
Do I need a green laser, or can UV engrave inside crystal?
Choose the HS-GL05 green-laser model for standard portrait and retail crystal engraving. Choose the HS-GL20P UV model when your design requires the UV model’s published working volume or workflow. Compare usable engraving area, blank size, file preparation and representative job time before ordering. A standard fiber metal marker is not a substitute for these subsurface crystal systems.
What materials can I engrave? Can it work on ordinary glass?
These machines engrave inside compatible transparent optical crystal blanks while leaving the outer surface intact. Blank composition, dimensions and shape must fit the selected model’s usable engraving volume. For exterior glass marking, use a configured UV laser marking machine.
Is the machine difficult to operate?
Basic repeat jobs are manageable after the first file and fixture are set up; portraits and new 3D models need more preparation. An operator typically loads or converts the artwork, checks the dot-point preview, positions a compatible crystal blank, selects the approved job and inspects the first engraved piece. The time-consuming step is often preparing a good 3D portrait or fitting it inside the blank, not pressing Start. Ask for a demonstration using your own file and the quoted software/training package if portrait production is central to the purchase.
Does the machine require a water chiller?
The listed HS-GL05 uses air cooling; confirm the cooling arrangement for the exact HS-GL20P configuration quoted. Keep ventilation paths clear and follow the model’s operating-temperature and maintenance instructions.
Both current product listings publish a laser-source life reference of more than 20,000 hours (HS-GL05: typically over 20,000 hours). This is source design life, not the whole-machine warranty. No ink or chemical marking media is used; crystal blanks are the work material, while protective optics and ventilation components require inspection and replacement if contaminated or damaged.
