The HS-CL200 is a 200W pulse laser cleaner: a pulsed fiber laser cleaning machine on wheels. It removes rust, paint, oxide and oil from steel, molds, tools and even wood, with very little heat into the part. It is at its best on light to medium layers. Heavy, flaking rust and thick paint come off too, but slowly.

  • Pulsed fiber, 200 W
  • Scan width 0–100 mm
  • 8 scan patterns
  • Air cooled, about 25 kg
  • 110 V or 220 V, set for your country

What it handles

Which cleaning jobs a 200 W pulsed laser handles well

Cleaning mostly rust? Our laser rust removal guide covers speed by rust thickness, costs and the steps. To compare machine types and prices, see laser cleaning machines.

JobVerdictWhy
Light rust, flash rust, oxide, oil film on steelHandles wellThin layers come off fast; published 200 W rates reach about 4–8 m²/h on thin rust
Paint off parts you will repaintHandles wellLow heat keeps thin sheet flat; slower on thick paint
Injection, tire and shoe molds; toolingHandles wellNo contact and no media left in the cavities; start gentle on coated molds
Weld seams, heat tint, light scaleHandles wellCleans the bead and heat-affected zone before welding or coating
Paint and grime on wood or stoneHandles well after a test spotLow settings; test a hidden area first on light stone
Heavy, flaking or pitted rust; thick multi-coat paintSlowlyPublished rates drop to about 2 m²/h or less
Tight mill scale on new plateNot productiveCoatings experts advise grinding or blasting (KTA)
Galvanized parts where the zinc must stayNoThe laser removes the zinc along with the rust

Rates are figures published for 200 W pulsed units (source), not our own measurements. Your rate depends on layer thickness, material and settings.

Time and cost

How long will my job take?

Example (calculated): weld prepA shop cleans a 50 mm band on each side of 30 m of joints, about 3 m². At published 200 W rates of 2–8 m²/h on thin to medium rust, that is about 0.4–1.5 hours of cleaning. Power use at the maximum 748 W for 1.5 hours is about 1.1 kWh, roughly $0.16 at a typical US business rate.
Example (calculated): thick paintOne square meter of thick paint at about 0.6 m²/h takes roughly 1 hour 40 minutes. For square meters of heavy coatings every day, a high-power continuous cleaner or blasting is faster.

Setup and safety

Setting it up and working safely

  1. Plug inWe set the machine to 110 V or 220 V before shipping, to match your country. No water chiller is needed.
  2. Pick a preset on the touchscreenStart gentle: lower power, more passes. Raise power only if the layer will not lift.
  3. Keep the distance steadyThe depth of focus is about 5 mm, so move at an even speed and keep the head at the same height.
  4. Close off the area and extract fumesIt is a Class IV 1064 nm laser: everyone nearby wears eyewear rated for 1064 nm. Removed paint becomes fume; on lead paint or galvanized steel use a HEPA extractor and follow OSHA lead rules (OSHA).
Honest advice

When the HS-CL200 is the wrong choice

Square meters of heavy rust every dayWhole trailers or structural steel: a high-power continuous cleaner or blasting finishes faster.
Tight mill scale on new plateGrind or blast instead.
Coatings that must stayOn galvanized or plated parts, the laser removes the coating too.
One rusty part a yearA wire wheel, rust converter or blasting service costs less.
FAQ

HS-CL200 questions

Is 200 W pulsed fast enough for heavy rust?

It works, but slowly: published 200 W rates fall to about 2 m²/h on thick rust, against about 8 m²/h on thin rust. For heavy rust on big steel every day, a continuous cleaner or blasting is faster.

Will it damage the steel or aluminum underneath?

Short pulses keep the heat low. In published tests a continuous laser melted aluminum while a pulsed one did not. On thin aluminum use lower power and more passes.

Is 100 W enough, or do I need 200 W?

100 W is fine for small parts and thin layers. Published 200 W rates are about 2–3 times higher than 100 W figures from the same seller, which matters once you clean more than a few parts a day.

Does it remove mill scale before welding?

It removes heat tint, oxide and loose scale. Tight, intact mill scale on new plate needs grinding or blasting.

Will it run on my power supply?

Yes. Tell us your country and we set the machine to 110 V or 220 V before shipping. Maximum draw is under 748 W.

Can it strip paint from wood or clean stone?

Yes, at low settings. Watch the wood video above, and on light stone test a hidden spot first.
