Heavy-Duty Desktop Pneumatic Marker
The Foundry Brute (For Castings & Forgings)
Built with a massive, rigid industrial column and high-torque motors. This desktop system is designed for heavy valve bodies, pump housings, and forged parts. It delivers maximum pneumatic striking force to create indentations deep enough (0.5mm+) to remain perfectly legible after thick powder coating or aggressive sandblasting.
Portable Pneumatic with Electromagnet
(The H-Beam Specialist)
Don’t drag a 2-ton I-beam to a machine. This portable pneumatic powerhouse uses a robust electromagnetic base to securely lock onto vertical or horizontal steel structures. It prevents recoil, ensuring perfectly straight, deep heat numbers on structural steel before galvanizing.
Portable 100% Electric / Battery Marker
(The Cordless Yard Worker)
Operating in a sprawling outdoor steel yard? Ditch the air compressor and tripping hazards. Our high-impact electric and battery-powered markers provide the mobility needed to serialize scaffolding, pipes, and steel plates directly where they are stored.
Why Lasers Fail and Dot Peen Prevails
In the structural steel and foundry business, a mark that disappears after processing is worse than no mark at all. HT Marker systems are built to overcome the unique metallurgical challenges of heavy fabrication.
Galvanize-Proof Depth: Hot-dip galvanizing adds a thick layer of zinc (often 80-100+ microns) that fills in shallow marks. Our specialized deep-marking carbide pins displace metal aggressively, creating a deep crater (0.5mm+) that reads clearly through the thickest zinc baths and epoxy paints.
Ignores Mill Scale & Rust: Lasers require a clean, flat surface to focus. Our dot peen markers physically smash through tough mill scale, casting sand textures, and surface rust, guaranteeing a permanent mark on raw, untreated steel.
No Material Stress Fractures: Unlike manual stamping which can cause micro-cracking in certain forgings, our controlled, high-frequency dot peen action creates a low-stress continuous line, maintaining the structural integrity of critical load-bearing parts.

| Material Challenge & Post-Processing | Recommended Marking System | Marking Mechanism | Why It Works (Benefit) |
| Structural Steel (Pre-Hot-Dip Galvanizing) | Portable Pneumatic + Electromagnet Base | Deep Pneumatic Displacement (>0.5mm) | Mark is deep enough that thick molten zinc cannot fill and hide the characters. |
| Raw Castings & Forgings (Rough Textures) | Heavy-Duty Desktop Pneumatic | High-Impact Carbide Pin | Physically breaks through mill scale, rust, and uneven casting surfaces where lasers fail. |
| Outdoor Steel Yards (No Air Supply) | Portable Electric / Battery Marker | Electromagnetic Stylus Drive | Maximum mobility to mark massive H-beams and scaffolding without an air compressor. |
Will Your Traceability Survive Thick Industrial Coatings?
In structural steel and heavy fabrication, shallow marks get buried and lost under layers of protective paint, rust-proofing, or zinc. We don’t just promise deep marking; we prove it.
Watch our heavy-duty dot peen systems undergo our internal coating stress test:
The Deep Strike: See our pneumatic marker drive a heavy carbide pin directly into a raw steel plate, effortlessly achieving depths exceeding 0.5mm.
The Heavy Coating Test: Watch what happens when we apply thick layers of industrial spray paint over the freshly marked steel. The deep mechanical indentation remains clearly visible and tactile, proving its readiness for your harshest post-processing environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why shouldn't I use a Fiber Laser for structural steel and raw castings?
Because lasers cannot penetrate mill scale or survive heavy galvanizing. Fiber lasers require a relatively smooth, clean surface to focus their optical beam. Raw steel is covered in rough mill scale, rust, and casting textures that scatter the laser. Furthermore, a laser typically only etches the surface (0.05mm). When the steel undergoes hot-dip galvanizing or heavy anti-corrosion painting, the zinc/paint will completely fill in and erase a laser mark. You must use a deep dot peen marker for these applications.
How deep must I mark the steel before hot-dip galvanizing?
The American Galvanizers Association asks for stamped marks at least 0.8 mm (1/32 in) deep and 13 mm (1/2 in) high, so they can still be read after the zinc coat (AGA). Our heavy-duty pneumatic markers use larger carbide pins and strong air valves to reach this depth in standard structural steel. Test on a scrap of the same steel first.
My H-beams are too heavy to move. How do I mark them straight?
We recommend our Portable Dot Peen Markers with Electromagnetic Bases. You bring the handheld unit to the massive H-beam. Once positioned, you activate the electromagnet, which locks the machine to the steel with hundreds of pounds of holding force. This eliminates all recoil and vibration, ensuring perfectly straight, deeply indented characters every time.
We already have a CNC beam line. Do we still need a separate marker?
Often, yes. Many CNC beam drilling, sawing and plasma lines have their own marking unit that puts part numbers on the beam as it passes. But heat numbers, CE marks, and marks on parts that come off the line, get welded, or arrive from another shop still need a marker you can take to the steel. A portable dot peen marker with a magnetic base does this beside the line or out in the yard, with no change to your CNC line.
Do the marking pins wear out quickly on rough castings?
While rough castings and forgings are abrasive, our marking pins are crafted from high-grade Tungsten Carbide , which is exceptionally hard and durable. Furthermore, the pins are easily sharpenable and inexpensive to replace. We also offer specialized heavy-duty pin angles specifically designed for casting environments to maximize lifespan.
Can these machines mark 2D DataMatrix codes for foundry automation?
Yes. While alphanumeric text (heat numbers, batch codes) is the most common, our high-precision dot peen machines can strike continuously to form highly readable 2D DataMatrix codes. Even at extreme depths, these codes can be scanned by specialized industrial DPM (Direct Part Mark) barcode readers after painting or processing.
Does a battery-powered dot peen marker strike as deep as a pneumatic one?
Pneumatic markers are deeper, but battery-powered models are highly capable. A pneumatic marker utilizes compressed air to achieve the absolute maximum depth (often exceeding 0.5mm), making it the gold standard for heavy hot-dip galvanizing. However, our battery-powered and fully electric models use advanced electromagnetic coils to deliver impressive depths of 0.1mm to 0.5mm. This is more than sufficient for standard anti-rust painting and provides the ultimate convenience for outdoor steel yards without air compressors.
How do operators input long heat numbers or CE marks without making typing errors?
By using our automated software integration. In structural steel fabrication (AISC/CE compliance), a wrong heat number can cause a massive structural recall. Our touch-screen controllers eliminate manual typing errors by allowing operators to import data directly via CSV/Excel files, or by using a handheld barcode scanner to scan a work order directly into the marking machine. The machine automatically increments serial numbers and marks the exact data required.
Will dot peen marking bottleneck our steel fabrication line? How fast is it?
No, it is also fast. While manual hammering takes time and yields inconsistent results, an industrial dot peen marker marks about 1 to 3 characters per second at 2 mm character height. Heat numbers on beams are usually marked larger, which takes longer per character, so time a test with your real text size. This ensures your H-beams and fabricated parts move through the quality control and traceability stations without any delay.
